Workers in the extractives industry are regularly exposed to health hazards in their work. These hazards can seriously harm the health of workers if not managed effectively.
Operators are required to develop worker health principal control plans by the Health and Safety at Work (Mining Operations and Quarrying Operations) Regulations 2016.
We have produced guidance on managing health hazards in the extractives industry.
The quick guide Managing health risks in the extractives industry:
- describes the key hazards and the associated risks for workers involved in this line of work;
- explains the responsibilities of PCBUs to manage these risks effectively, and outlines practical ways this can be done;
- provides information on health monitoring and exposure monitoring.
